Learn to Play Magic the Gathering: Standard Play for Beginners (Inclusive Exclusive)

So you’ve had a taste of the game and you’re ready for the next step! Beginning immediately after our Learn to Play Magic: Free Play Demo (which we encourage you attend as part 1 of this Learn to Play evening), this casual beginner event will introduce players to Standard Format gameplay. Players will receive a two-colour 40 card deck (included in the ticket price), and hone their skills alongside other beginners. We’ll venture deeper into the world of Magic: The Gathering to learn about common deck strategies, different gameplay formats, and the mysteries of The Stack. By the end of the evening, players should feel empowered to take their next steps– whether that's playing at home with friends, joining another one of our casual play events, or diving deep into the lore behind the cards.

This is an Inclusive Exclusive event for players ages 16+! We’re building a warm, welcoming, and intentionally curated environment for those who have often felt on the outside of traditional tabletop gaming spaces. This event centers women, LGBTQ+ folks, Black, Indigenous, and other people of color - and anyone whose identities or experiences have placed them at the margins of gaming culture. Our goal is to create a space where you can feel at ease, included, and fully yourself - a place to play, connect, and have fun without pressure to explain, educate, or justify your presence. Come as you are. This space was made with you in mind. To maintain the integrity of this space, we reserve the right to decline or remove participants whose actions or attitudes compromise its inclusivity.
