Learn to Play Magic the Gathering: Free Play Demo (Inclusive Exclusive)

Come get a taste of Magic: The Gathering in a beginner-friendly environment!

During this free demo and introduction to play event, players will get acquainted with the basic mechanics of the game and take on their first opponent in one-on-one matches using 20-card mini decks.

We’ll cover basic terminology, turn structure, card types, and, of course, the Magic player’s motto: Untap! Upkeep! Draw! No cards? No problem! Loaner materials will be provided for the demo session. Players can put their newfound knowledge into practice at Learn to Play Magic the Gathering: Standard Play for Beginners, a paid event beginning immediately after this free demo and introduction.

This is an Inclusive Exclusive event for players ages 16+! We’re building a warm, welcoming, and intentionally curated environment for those who have often felt on the outside of traditional tabletop gaming spaces. This event centers women, LGBTQ+ folks, Black, Indigenous, and other people of color - and anyone whose identities or experiences have placed them at the margins of gaming culture. Our goal is to create a space where you can feel at ease, included, and fully yourself - a place to play, connect, and have fun without pressure to explain, educate, or justify your presence. Come as you are. This space was made with you in mind. To maintain the integrity of this space, we reserve the right to decline or remove participants whose actions or attitudes compromise its inclusivity.
