Chess Tournament
Welcome to the ultimate battle of wits at the the BAG's 2nd Annual Chess Tournament!
Join us at the Brackendale Art Gallery for a day filled with intense chess matches and strategic gameplay, perfect for all chess enthusiasts.
Show off your skills, challenge opponents, and compete for the title of chess champion. Each participant will play at least 4 games. Don't miss out on this exciting in-person event! Our cafe, kitchen and bar will all be open all tournament long! Prizes will be announced soon.
Chess Tournament Rules
1. Registration
1.1. Participants must register before Friday, November 15, 2025, at 5:30 p.m.
1.2. Players must provide: Full name Age Telephone contact NO RATING REQUIRED
2. Tournament Format
2.1. The tournament will follow either a round-robin or Swiss 5-round format, depending on the number of participants (Swiss format is preferred).
2.2. Time Control: Each game will use a chess clock with 10 minutes per player and a 10-second increment per move. First Place
2.3. The winner will be based in the punctuation with no tiebreaker.
3. Game Rules
3.1. All games will follow standard FIDE rules.
3.2. Talking during games is prohibited, except to: Offer a draw Announce "check"
3.3. Electronic devices are not allowed during games.
3.4. A player arriving more than 5 minutes late forfeits the game.
3.5. An illegal move results in a 3-minute penalty deducted from the offending player’s clock.
3.6. A move is valid once the player presses their clock.
3.7. Players must press the clock with the same hand used to make the move.
3.8. At the end of a game, players must: Inform the arbiter of the result Sign and submit the score sheet to the arbiter
3.9. Players will be notified of their table assignments via a public address system.
4. Player Conduct
4.1. Players must maintain sportsmanlike and respectful behavior at all times.
4.2. Any form of cheating will result in immediate disqualification.
4.3. Arbiters' decisions are final and binding.
5. Arbiters and Decisions
5.1. The tournament will have a chief arbiter and assistant arbiters.
5.2. Arbiters are responsible for enforcing the rules and resolving disputes.
5.3. Complaints about player behavior or arbitral decisions must be addressed to the chief arbiter.
6. Final Provisions
6.1. The tournament organizer reserves the right to modify these rules if necessary. Changes will be communicated to all participants before the tournament starts.
6.2. By registering, participants agree to abide by all rules and conditions outlined in this document.
