Wildfire & Travel Update
(posted August 10, 2026, last updated August 18, 2026)
British Columbia declared a State of Provincial Emergency on August 8 in response to significant wildfire activity affecting several areas of the province.
Our thoughts are with the residents, businesses and communities impacted, and with the firefighters, first responders and emergency personnel working across B.C.
Squamish is currently open and welcoming visitors, with no evacuation alerts or orders in effect for the community. For additional trip-planning support and accommodation information, stop by or call the Squamish Visitor Centre: 778-743-8118. For up-to-date information on camping and campsite availability, visit the Squamish Camping Guide page.
While wildfire impacts are being felt in other parts of B.C., conditions can vary significantly from one region to another. There is currently no province-wide travel ban in British Columbia.
Visitors travelling to, or through, Squamish are encouraged to check conditions for their specific destination and travel route before and during their trip, and respect all current fire and recreation restrictions.
As of August 10, recreational off-road vehicle use on Crown land is temporarily prohibited in parts of the Coastal Fire Centre, including the Sea to Sky region. The restriction applies to ATVs, off-road motorcycles and side-by-side vehicles. Learn more.
Campfire restrictions also remain in effect within the District of Squamish and in the Province of BC, including the Sea to Sky region.
