Responsibilities include planning, organizing, directing, controlling, and evaluating the operations of the retail and visitor centre as part of the Adventure Centre guest experience. Responsibilities will also include the interviewing, hiring, and training of employees, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, and rewarding and disciplining employees. In addition, scheduling, purchasing, inventory management and merchandising are key tasks and part of your required skill set.

The retail & Guest Services Manager will be a key member of the management team and have a continuous focus on improving the guest experience and ensuring business success. You must thrive in a fast-paced environment while at the same time providing quality service in a professional, courteous, and helpful manner. 

The ideal candidate for this role is seeking a dynamic career opportunity with room to grow and shape the guest experience at the iconic Squamish aDventure Centre. In the fall, the facility will undergo an exciting renovation and redesign of the interior space in addition to the installation of a destination exhibit designed to enhance the visitor experience in Squamish. 

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the development and articulation of the vision and strategy for the store and visitor centre
  • Responsible for ensuring that the revenue targets for the store are achieved or exceeded
  • Set the standard for exceptional customer service and engagement
  • Organize, lead, mentor, supervise and train staff
  • Resolve customer inquiries and complaints
  • Maintain inventory by implementing purchasing plans and staying in contact with vendors and shippers
  • Provide training to improve the knowledge base of the staff and utilise cross-training methods to maintain productivity during slower periods
  • Work with vendors and manufacturers to bring in effective marketing displays for the sales floor and store windows
  • Maintain a strong presence in the visitor centre and store leading by example to ensure that customers always receive the highest standard of customer service and sales expertise
  • Promote positive employee experience through engagement activities, regular feedback, and individual growth plans and lead by example with daily leadership of the team
  • Ensure team members are following all health and safety regulations
  • Respond to facility booking and event requests
  • Ensure the visitor centre standards for data collection are met
  • Responsible for preparing sales and visitor centre reporting

Skills:

  • Master of retail operations, merchandise buying and the art of visual display
  • Proficiency and knowledge of POS platforms and inventory management systems
  • Demonstrated management skills in human resources, payroll, budgeting, sales and staff development and incentive programs
  • Strong understanding of sales and customer service techniques with a focus on creating extraordinary guest experiences
  • Knowledge of lawful employment practices
  • Entrepreneurial mindset – and ability to make decisions and take calculated risks
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously; with an eagerness to consistently meet and exceed objectives and take on more responsibility
  • Excellent communication skills - interpersonal, written and verbal
  • Weekend, seasonal and statutory holiday work hours are required
  • Extensive knowledge of Squamish and the surrounding area
  • Ability to engage, serve and communicate positively with a broad range of local and international guests when there may be language, mobility or other barriers
  • Strong aptitude for data collection, statistics is an asset
  • A diploma or degree in business management or tourism-related field would be an asset
  • The successful candidate must have a minimum of five years in a retail management role and demonstrated experience leading projects and diverse teams

 

Position Type:  Full Time

Renumeration: TBD depending upon experience and credentials. Range: $58-$68,000 annually

Other benefits: Extended Medical plan after 3 months of employment plus a performance-based bonus plan
Reports to: General Manager
Schedule: Full-time (holiday and weekend work is required)
