An Insider's Guide to Refresh Market
Friday November 17 and Saturday November 18 marks the return of Refresh Market, one of B.C.’s leading indie markets and the largest two-day market in the Sea to Sky Corridor for handmade and locally designed wares. Held biannually in Squamish at the historic West Coast Railway Heritage Park, the market features 100 artists, makers and pop-ups and is known to draw major crowds.
Here’s what you should know if you’re planning to attend.
What to find: A highly edited selection of clothing, ceramics, homewares, vintage, jewelry, dry goods and more from individual makers and shops, each bringing a range of their most sought after items.
What to taste: In addition to sampling the items from participating artisan food vendors ranging from plant-based crackers to artisan chocolate, more than a half dozen food trucks will be set up outside to nourish you with salads, curry, greek, tacos, cold-pressed juice (gluten-free and vegan options included).
What to bring: Comfortable shoes, a reusable shopping back and plenty of cash, although many vendors accept payment by credit card. An ATM is also available on site but it has been known to empty throughout the day.
When to go: Market hours are Friday, November 17 from 4 to 10 p.m. with happy hour drink specials from 4 to 5 p.m., and Saturday, November 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a special one-hour First Dibs preview on Friday, November 17 from 3 to 4 p.m. The first 50 to arrive on both days will receive a market swag bag filled with small gifts from participating vendors (one per family). The vendor lineup is identical on both days, but if you want your pick of the goods, your best bet is to get there early.
