5 Must-do events at the 59th Squamish Days Loggers Sports Festival

Squamish's legendary action-packed test of skill, speed and strength that once drew the likes of the late Johnny Cash is back this B.C. day long weekend and lumberjack or not, it’s well worth the hype.

Here are 5 must-do events at the 59th Squamish Days Loggers Sports Festival.


1.  Kettle Boil Challenge

Come as a spectator or register your team of two for this festival kick-off challenge in which the team whose water boils first wins.

When: Thursday July 28, 6 p.m.

Where: Squamish Valley Golf Course

Admission: Free; Team Entry Fee: $15


2. Outdoor Movie Night

Forget Netflix, the newly releasedThe Jungle Book is coming to a park near you. Hit the concession and bring the family to this free outdoor screening of a movie that’s been on our watch list. 

When: Thursday July 28, 9:30 p.m.

Where: Al McIntosh Loggers Sports Grounds

Admission: Free


3.  World Championship Chair Carve

The uniquely Squamish competition during which carvers turn logs into chairs that are then judged and auctioned off for charity.

When: Friday July 29, 3-5:30 p.m.; Judging begins at 5 p.m.

Where: Cleveland Avenue across from McDonald Realty in Downtown Squamish

Admission: Free


4.  Loggers Sports Shows

The true test of skill that is not to missed. Competitors begin moving up the ranks at Saturday’s novice and intermediate show for a chance to compete in Sunday’s world-class show where axe throwing, pole bucking and tree topping are all just the name of the game. 

When: Saturday July 30 and Sunday July 31, 1:30 p.m.

Saturday - Adults: $2; Seniors & Children (ages 6-11): $1

Sunday - Adults: $10; Seniors & Children (ages 6-11): $5


5.   B.C. Day Picnic at the Pavilion

It’s a country affair at this year’s all-ages festival finale featuring live music, food vendors and more.

When: Monday August 1,11 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Where: Junction Park in Downtown Squamish 

Admission: Free
