Annual Sikh Parade
The Squamish Sikh Society brings back its annual Nagar Kirtan parade .
The Parade begins at Gurdwara Sahib and follows a route along 5th Avenue, Victoria Street, 3rd Avenue, Pemberton, and Cleveland Ave, finishing at O'Siyam Pavilion. Along the way, performers will demonstrate Gatka, a traditional Sikh martial art rooted in swordsmanship.
The parade marks the martyrdom day of the Fifth Sikh Guru, Guru Arjan Dev Ji, and is open to all community members. Over 8,000 attendees are expected. Upon arrival at the pavilion, political and religious leaders will speak, and approximately 26 food stalls will offer a variety of traditional and non-traditional fare. Dignitaries attending include the mayor, Squamish Nation representatives, local MLA and MP, RCMP, and the local fire department.
