A "Let's Talk Event" Hosted by Coast Mountain Academy

Schools, families, and in some cases, entire countries, are grappling with how to manage the interface between social media and youth. Coast Mountain Academy is deliberating on this topic as well and we invite you to a discussion on the evening of February 26th open to anyone in the Sea-to-Sky who wants to engage. If you have related experiences, ideas, or concerns, this event is for you.

This topic matters now as many educators and parents feel there are implications surrounding social media that are uncomfortable: we have no shared language to aid understanding of the cognitive effects, and we don’t know how to weigh the positives and negatives sensibly against each other.

Court Ashbaugh, Head of Senior School at Coast Mountain Academy will be moderating and guiding the discussion with the goal of drawing out coherent thinking, and sharpening points of agreement and divergence. There will be no formal presentation or keynote speaker who claims to be an expert and we are not driven by a desire to reach any comfortable conclusions. The dialogue will come from you. If this interests you, please join us with your ideas, concerns, and an open mind.
