D&D Master Class: Combat @ Arrow Wood Games
Join this 3-session workshop to become a Dungeons and Dragons pro.
Are you only a little familiar with D&D, but your friends or family have nominated you as Dungeon Master? Or maybe you’ve been playing for years and are finally ready to try running a game yourself? This program is for brand new DMs and newer DMs who feel like they could use a bit of help.
In this three-session workshop, you'll practice all aspects of running encounters including things like the following. We can also dig into specific topics that are of interest to the group.
- Understand the basics
- Managing initiative
- Managing surprise
- Managing the various types of actions players (and monsters!) can take
- Dig deeper into running combat strategically
- Understanding the different types of monsters and making decisions about what your monsters should do next
- Dealing with big mobs vs single powerful monsters
- Managing pacing
- Improvising when your players surprise you!
- Create immersive combats
- Using the encounter environment to build immersion
- Building the players' ability to add to the combat narrative
- Talk about creating encounters from scratch
- Creating balanced encounters
- You’ll gain the tools you need to guide your own group on adventures full of mystery, monsters, and magic, bringing a fantasy world to life for your friends and family.
What else do you need to know?
- It is encouraged that everyone to bring paper and writing implements so you can take notes.
- If you already DM, it is encouraged that you to bring whatever you use in your DM kit to be comfortable. If you do not DM yet, - Arrow Wood Games will provide you with what you need each evening!
- A minimum of 4 players are required to run the event.
- Tickets are refundable up to 48 hours before the first session.
- No outside food or drinks. Snacks and non-alcoholic drinks available for purchase.
