Weekly Winter Adventures - Walking the Oceanfront

A favourite among locals during the summer months, Nexen Beach and the Oceanfront Interpretive Trail are located just past downtown on the shores of Howe Sound. The ocean, the snow capped mountains and the sky all meet to give you a sense of the majesty and scope of sea to sky country.

The views here are breathtaking; The Stawamus Chief, Shannon Falls, Mt Garibaldi and the peaks of the Tantalus are all visible from the beach. It’s not uncommon to see harbour seals, otters and herons dotting the coast line or swimming for their lunch.

For locals with a furry companion, it’s one of our faves. So bring your pawed friend and come have a stroll on the oceanfront. After, you’re already downtown so drop into one of the cafes or restaurants for a snack and quick warm up.

Getting There

The Oceanfront Interpretive Trail begins just at the corner of Cleveland Avenue and Vancouver Street opposite the Howe Sound Brewing Company in downtown Squamish. Turn off Highway 99 at Cleveland Avenue and follow it until it ends. The parking area is right there.
